Tetsuo Ashizawa, MD

Dr. Tetsuo Ashizawa is Professor of Neurology at Weill Cornell Medical College at Houston Methodist Research Institute. He has chaired two neurology departments, at UTMB and University of Florida where he also served as Executive Director of the UF McKnight Brain Institute. Dr. Ashizawa has been interested in clinical and basic research on diseases caused by microsatellite repeat expansions. He has established the international myotonic dystrophy consortium (IDMC) and organized a natural history study of spinocerebellar ataxias. He currently leads the NIH-funded clinical trial readiness study for spinocerebellar ataxia 1 and 3 (READISCA).
