Ralph Nitkin, PhD

Ralph Nitkin is the Deputy Director for the National Center for Medical Rehabilitation Research (NCMRR), located within NICHD. He received his undergraduate and masters degrees from MIT and his PhD from UCSD in cellular neurobiology. For the past 31 years he has worked as a science administrator at the NICHD, first in intellectual and developmental disabilities and more recently in medical rehabilitation. Within NCMRR, Dr. Nitkin is particularly involved with research on fundamental mechanisms of rehabilitation, including neuroplasticity, physiology, exercise, and other adaptive changes. He has been heavily involved in rehabilitation research infrastructure and career-development networks.
