David R Benavides, MD, PhD

Dr. Benavides is Assistant Professor of Neurology and Physiology at University of Maryland School of Medicine. He earned MD and PhD degrees from the MSTP at The University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center in Dallas, Texas. He completed neurology residency and fellowship training at The Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, Maryland, as well as postdoctoral training in molecular neuroscience. Dr. Benavides directs a preclinical translational research program to investigate immune regulation of synaptic structure and function. The unifying goal of this research program is to identify novel therapeutic targets for neurologic diseases, with particular interest in autoantibody-mediated neurological syndromes.
