Araya Puwanant, MD, MS
Wake Forest University Health Sciences
I am a neuromuscular physician with an emphasis on muscular dystrophy. My research focuses on developing biomarkers and endpoints in myotonic dystrophy (DM), the most common adultonset muscular dystrophy with multisystemic features, and towards acquiring new approaches for treatments. I am currently PI of the studies entitled “Sub-Regional Body Composition and Clinical Endpoints in DM” and “Brain Structure and Cognitive Endpoints in DM Type 2 (DM2)”, and co-I of the NIH-funded Extracellular RNA biomarkers of DM type 1 (DM1). I am also actively involved in therapeutic trials with the goal of providing therapies for patients with neuromuscular conditions.
