Alex Carter, MD, PhD

Dr. Carter is an Associate Professor in the Division of Neurorehabilitation in the Department of Neurology at Washington University in Saint Louis. Dr. Carter obtained his Ph.D. working on the cellular mechanisms of brain plasticity at Harvard University and his M.D. at Harvard Medical School and MIT before moving to Washington University. His work is now centered on understanding how different treatments ranging from behavioral interventions to transcranial magnetic stimulation promote brain reorganization. In combination with neuroimaging, Dr. Carter hopes that this approach will lead to personalized treatments for better stroke recovery.
