Akshata Habib Almad, PhD

Dr. Almad is a Research Associate at the Children’s Hospital Of Philadelphia. She is a neuroscientist with a focuse on understanding the role of glial cells in neurological diseases. She has received her PhD from The Ohio State University and then went on to do her post-doctoral fellowship at Johns Hopkins University, during which demonstrated the neurotoxic role of conenxin43 in amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis. Her current research is focused on examining cellular and molecular mechanism in childhood leukodystrophies. She has recently been awarded a NIH grant to examine the role of retroelements in the neuroimmune disorder Aicardi Goutières Syndrome.
